ELECTION PROMISES

Mega trees were chopped down to bring us flier after flier of crap from candidates trying to decry and debunk what their opponents were/weren't doing.  Now at this tender stage of counting we will see what the people want.

Is it so wrong to expect democracy to be a part of our lives; is it so hard to imagine the people we have trusted in the past cannot lie straight in bed?   Are politicians like bananas - go in green, become bent and come out yellow?   An analogy shared with me by a school mate of years ago and all in front of the banana counter at Safeway!

  1. Nothing has changed very much, still having the same fights to keep the bastards honest. Tired of trying to keep ahead of those who would be obeyed. Yet in the past we have seen "people of power" and position in this city take decisions without community consultation. Advice given to prop up industry which only led to keeping jobs for a short while and now the inevitable - these companies closing down. Tired of those who are aspiring to greatness? Tired of their ignorant decisions. A child of 8 creating a problem for its mother who then becomes "not a single parent" but a person on 'New Start' therefore losing at least $65 of her allowance. Ridiculous outcome when we are funding overseas countries with mega dollars, when we cannot afford to fund our own. Foreign aid is understood but not at the expense of Australian's who genuinely want work, yet fail to find it. Our politicians then put their
needs first and up go the dollars for them. The threat to the Defence Force's superannuation probably was the last straw for the Gillard Govt. yet I cannot see Kevin 013 being able to stabilise things.

Corporations running governments is not a good thing - the people vote in those they believe will look after our economy, our homes, our production, our food supplies, our everything. Yet we see failure. WHY!!!

  2. Today Geelong has reached a turning point for its future. We have elected a Mayor who is his own person, listens to the people and will no doubt be a breath of fresh air for this City. Already he has enjoyed more media coverage than the same old brigade run by the top end of town. May Darryn Lyons find his niche in local government and find the answers to this city which has seen difficulty in promoting itself as a separate entity from Melbourne. Let us see international sporting heroes being promoted as performing in Geelong, Vic. Australia. Not Melbourne. How in the hell is anyone going to know about this place if it is continually promoted as Melbourne???
